MEDIA RELEASE
- BOOK HUGE SUCCESS IN INDIA
Read with Speed by Australian author Roz Townsend was a huge success when
it was launched at the 16th World Book Fair in Delhi on 15th February 2004.
“Read with Speed, in
its first week of publication, was our second highest selling title
at the World Book Fair,” said Mr G. Olivannan of Emerald Publishers.
“Indian readers are
quick to accept the book and it has received rave reviews from leading
academics in Delhi and Chennai.”
“Read with Speed has
been designed for Indian readers and will have a groundbreaking influence
on the way Indian students approach reading and learning,” said
Mrs Townsend.
The book aims to teach the
reader how to improve their reading and comprehension in six easy steps:
- Read in your head –
don’t subvocalise;
- Keep moving – don’t
regress;
- Eyes right;
- Take a bigger chunk;
- Read only half the words;
and
- Use your brain.
Mrs Townsend designed the
six steps following her research of learning and reading difficulties
experienced by readers from kindergarten to university. Her research
found that the tools needed to improve reading speed and comprehension
were basically the same for all levels of education. She also found
that the steps were still effective after translation into other languages.
Read with Speed is based upon Mrs
Townsend’s book Read Really Fast, which is published in Australia by
Hallstead Press. Read Really Fast is available direct from the roztownsend.com
website and all good bookstores.
