FIRST EVER FOREIGN CORPORATE COACH
Australian author, Roz Townsend, made Australian-Chinese

to train officials in the State owned Guangdong Provincial Publishing Group,
one of China’s largest publishers.
Mrs Townsend, a well known corporate
trainer, with the assistance of her university lecturer husband Iain, were
engaged to develop the English language skills and prepare 50 delegates of
the Guangdong Provincial Publishing Group for the Frankfurt Book Fair - within
a seven day time frame.
Mrs Townsend’s training was hailed as a great success in meeting Chinese
business English needs.
“The outcomes of this project
(of Mrs Townsend’s training) far exceeded our expectations,” said
Dr Wang Guike, General Manager Guangdong Provincial Publishing Group.
Mrs Townsend looks forward to making
Australian learning resources more accessible in China.
“The Chinese educational
publishing market is set to boom as more students continue to participate
in international business as part of China’s middle class,” said
Mrs Townsend.
Mrs Townsend’s book
‘Learn Really Well’ was also published bilingually in this
period and was well received as both an English language tool and a study
skills tool. Guangdong Publishing Group plan to release four more bilingual
versions of Mrs Townsend’s books in the coming months.
Mrs Townsend presented five lectures
on the book to more than 2000 university and college students in Guangzhou
and Zhu Hai and at that time more than 700 copies of her ‘Learn Really
Well’ book were sold.
A presentation at the most prestigious
Sun Yat-sen University was written up with glowing reports in two State newspapers
including the Guangzhou Daily. Guangzhou Television also reported on the lecture
with a televised report on the news the following day.
Professor Xia Jimei the
Director of the Foreign Language Education Institute at the Sun Yat-sen University
said, “We are delighted with the way Mrs Townsend was able to modify
her delivery of content and English language to the competency levels of her
audience.”
“I think the highlight of
my assignment in Guangzhou was facilitating the communication which led to
a meeting between my Chinese and Indian publishers at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
This meeting resulted in a letter of agreement of mutual co-operation”
said Mrs Townsend on her return to Australia. Mrs Townsend said that the publishing
group have invited her back for the South China book fair in November.
